March is B Corp Month, marking a time dedicated to reflecting on what it means to use business as a force for good and how we, as consumers, have the power of making a difference.
Certified B Corporations are championing a better way of doing business. As companies that live by the principles of the triple bottom line (people, planet, profit), the more profits they have, the more impact they can make; which means more donations to positive causes, more flexibility for workers, and more equitable opportunities to those in their industries. One of the simplest ways to support your favorite Certified B Corporations is by buying from them!
Read on to better understand the purchasing power you have as a consumer, and peek some of Tonic’s favorite sustainable swaps!
Make Your Money Loud
We all have purchasing power — In today’s world, where consumers have more and more choices, it is important to support companies that take a stand on environmental and social issues. Our purchasing power gives us the ability to influence change by choosing to buy from businesses that prioritize ethical practices and social responsibility.
Align Your Values to Your Lifestyle
Certified B Corporations are a cohort of companies trying to use business as a force for good. When you buy from a Certified B, you can be confident that the employees behind the product(s) are treated well, from benefits to break room snacks and everything in between. By aligning your purchases with your values, we can encourage more businesses to adopt responsible practices and create a more equitable and sustainable future.
Take the Guesswork Out of Purchasing
Businesses go through a rigorous assessment and stringent auditing process to become Certified B Corporations, and are required to recertify every three years. (Take a peek at our experience.) Yes, the logo is awesome for branding, but it also lets the consumer know that the product or service being shopped is meeting the highest standards of environmental and social impact. Third-party accreditations help to validate and mitigate research sometimes done by the consumer themselves. TLDR; Save yourself time, look for logos.
We asked the masses (the Tonic masses) how they incorporate Certified B’s into their daily lives in hopes of sharing some easy ways to be more sustainably conscious and impactful on the regular. And they did not disappoint. Below are just a few of the 9,000+ companies around the world transforming the global economy to benefit all people, communities, and the planet, backed by Tonic’s recommendation.
